9 dolog, amit ajánlok a régi blogomról

2017. február 15. - Rolandante

Katt a címekre! ;)

EMBEREK RUHÁBAN – Mert a király meztelen

  1. A Kilencdolog blog

  1. Biblia-ajánló

Kedvenc bestsellerem. Több szempontból is érdemes fellapozni, itt megemlítek ezek közül néhányat. Ezek után garantáltan kedved fog támadni hozzá neked is! (A könyvajánló egy mondata ráadásul valamennyire még a jövőmet is előrevetítette, teljesen szándékolatlanul: "A Biblia szívből ajánlható minden könyvbarátnak nemre, korra vallásra való tekintet nélkül, lélekmelengető olvasmányként esős délutánokra, utazásokhoz gyalog, szamárháton vagy a szeretet szárnyán...")

  1. A Hooligans zenekar elhelyezése a világ folyásában

  1. A Moszkva tér példázat

A hatodik legkirályabb poszt egy szeretett példabeszéd rebootja kedvenc filozófusomtól, Schopenhauertől Jézustól.

  1. Kőműves Kelemenanna

Rövidke szín-főművem. Nagyon mély személyes tapasztalatok húzódnak mögötte. Szerves részét képezi a hozzá tartozó elemzés is.

A szellemi függetlenség és tudatos élet reklámja / Declaration of intellectual independence and conscious life

 HU:

15995443_10155009844084189_844531602_n.jpg

A dolgok értelmét keresem.

EN:

I’ve got no tunnel vision, I’m not a sheep to shepherd, I’ve got an own taste.

I aim to speak my language the more expressively, while being ready to learn other nations’ too.

I gather information before shaping my opinion. I don’t like when people confuse my critical attitude with malice. I value the reflection focusing on reasons and purposes. I rather help people in need to find what they really need instead of giving them what their ego think they need.

I’m searching for the meaning of things; I even explore the original purpose of established routines and coping methods, while not mixing them with means to achieve them. I handle money as a tool in its place: stingy greed and artificial snobbism are both far away from me.

I consciously rebel against keeping my mind on diet. I don’t dip into fashion, hammering into adventure-society, campaigns of no sense or against sense. I use technical achievements purposively with sense and don’t surrender to them. I don’t aim to be fashionable, but rather stylish on behalf of self-expression.

Besides the mainstream culture continuously coming to my face I regularly make trips into the underground and aim to get to know and understand the alternative movements, to be aware of the opportunities and the world’s diversity.

15995443_10155009844084189_844531602_n.jpg

I respect the actual norms of the society, but I don’t take the existing economic system and social structure for naturally given, nor the legal and ethical rules of the Western world. I’m able to form an independent opinion, I don’t starve to join various political, cultural or religious associations. Furthermore, I’m ready to continue meaningful, counterproductive discourses regarding these topics, as a controlling opposition (and not as enemy!) of the current system.

I judge people based on their acts, not on their origins, identities or externalities.

I consider the effective and even scientific study of the reality given to us as important under all circumstances, while being open to transcendence and to rise above the tight, hypnotic state of mind socialized into us.

Instead of reflexive and egoistic parry I consider criticism, even force myself to do continuous self-examination, and based on these I’m always ready to change my opinion or even to laugh at myself. I strive for unfold my creative energies and I expect it from others too.

I care about my own physical and mental well-being as a unique manifestation of the unity of world and mankind, and I’m well aware that just like these two, the public and the individual’s well-being are interdependent too.

15978637_10155009843494189_1247917056_n_1.jpg

Overcoming the seducing simplicity of dipole thinking I see the good in the bad, and recognize the bad in the good as well; I pay attention to shades of people, events and phenomena. I contemplate everything in context. I think global and future-oriented, I act local concentrating on present's reality.

I express my thoughts and feelings, but avoid categorical statements. I keep my cognitive capacity flexible instead of boxing and labelling. I choose and honour certain patterns, but my loyalty follows no one blindly without criticism.

I’m moving on the field of reality, but I always view my utopia as a reference point, and this is the way I see it: INTELLECTUAL INDEPENDENCE IS LIBERTY ITSELF!

/Katt az I. részhez/

15970071_10155009843949189_470756630_n.jpg

Takashitól hazarepülése előtt a Monte do Gozo-i lengyel albergue-ben vettem búcsút, ahol a két önkéntes, Wiktoria és Mikolaj fogtak közre minket Rocinantéstul egy közös fotóra.

Egyetlen dolgot van most lehetőségem elmesélni: nekiálltak baszogatni a helyi hatóságok.

15969868_10155009843674189_1771555206_n.jpg

A világítótorony lábánál, régebben.

Rocinante a biztonság kedvéért búcsúzóul jókora adagot fosott a betonra, amit egyébként rendszerint a fűre szokott, avagy legtöbbször tartogatja inkább „hazáig”.

Másnap mégis jött a Policia Local (biztos a két ott tanyázó giccsboltos hívta), és a rendőr bácsi is a kaka sztorival állított nekem. Mondom, ezt már kitárgyaltuk a főnökkel. Azt mondja, akkor is húzzak el. Miért is?

Szóval kimentem másnap, gitáros pajtit váltva a világítótoronynál.

Azt mondja, akkor most feljelent állatkínzásért.

A BIZNISZT!!

Találkoztam ugyanis azokkal, akik megadták a keresett plusz kihívást a régóta bennem motoszkáló hazasétához. Hazavinném ugyanis Rocinantét lenyugdíjazni, gyalog. De akkor már előbb beugranánk Rómába is...

Idén 22 éves lesz a szamár, ami emberévben a nyugdíjkorhatárt súrolja.

Ez folyik most... Fisterra, miközben ily csúful kivet önnön testéből, ilyen új barátokkal hoz össze: dupla jel a moccanásra. Az irány úgyis adott: menjünk a flow-val!

Marcsi & Andris

Olyan szponzorban lennék érdekelt, ami cserébe olyasminek a propagálását ajánlja, amit magamtól is szívesen támogatnék.

Ezzel teszem töltőre a benső akkumulátort a szamárnyugdíjazó sétához. Megérkezés a St.End-re, ugyebár, haha.

Aztán majd úgyis az Isten végez…

Ezek sütik! Takashi „roba” sütijei. (A szamár japánul roba.)

ENG:

/Click for Part I./

Before going home I met Takashi once more who had already found accomodation for his donkey and was about to go to Santiago airport. I had my flight ticket to go home just for the very end of July so I stayed for a little while in Fisterra. Then I went home to spend some time with family, friends and just to become recuperated. By this time I had my plans for the next year. In the last days of August – just in time when I went totally broke – I returned to Galicia to earn some money for accomplishing those plans. I could almost save the amount what I needed however – as I normally say – the plan is only a plan ’B’ and the plan ’A’ is to leave it in the lap of the Gods... Ultimately the most important is to have smiles on the faces.

15970071_10155009843949189_470756630_n.jpg

I said goodbye to Takashi in a Polish albergue of Monte de Gozo where two volunteers, Wiktoria and Mikolaj caught us for a photo. I am also pleased to introduce Kriszta, the girl in the middle who is my ex-classmate from university. She is the one who helps me to translate the episodes of this blog to English (with the exception of this episode) because she's cool. God bless her for that! She works as a psychologist, instructs firewalking and does research in ritual fire traditions. In Spain the feast of fire is celebrated on the night of San Juan, she came for that and took a walk at the Camino – it is also quite ritualistic and usually pilgrims burn something away at the end of it. I am going to tell you more about this ritual...

This time things were not going so well in Fisterra.

This is the place where pilgrims get to at the end of their long journey, where the world officially ends (finis terrae = the end of the land). There is no more way to go on, the endless ocean can be seen only. This is the place of musing, summation, looking inside of ourselves and flowing, of course. Because not only the Atlantic Ocean is flowing here but also a kind of energy ocean as so powerful emotions are flowing in the souls of people who reach this place. Before Christendom this area had already been a ritual field during the celtic times, whose centuries-old flowing traditions can be experienced here firsthand. The pilgrims burn something away which has been carried along the journey so thus breaking with some parts of their past and having had a dip in the ocean to be cleansed for their new beginning.

This small fishing village is situated in a windy peninsula. Due to its geographic location visitors must contend not only with earth, water and fire but air also and adding the heart, Captain Planet comes into existance: great mount of tree-huggers from the five continents are congregating for various lenghts of time.

„God damn hippies” at the Mar de Fora

Mainly positive emotions are experienced greatly by the end of the journey, that's how the miracles happen. However if you perceive to be obsessed by bad spirits, the miracle can be the opposite of an uplifting experience. I think it is an excellent place to learn how responsible we are for our own thoughts and feelings. We create ourselves by them, so we create the world itself by them. I still had some negative stuff to work off from the previous year and this field which used to be my holiday resort could not even make me forget about these issues but instead brought them to the forefront of my mind.

I have one story to tell: the local authorities have started messing with me that time. A "new sheriff" came into the village in the shape of the new mayor who entrusted one of the deputy mayors to settle the ’hippie problem’ (which is impossible to settle anyway), because hippies do not really consume but do like organizing, critisizing and giving alternatives (like more personal accomodations for free) instead of mass tourism-centred local ones and meanwhile they like to feel good as well. The deputy mayor started the clean up with me as an example (since he has not been able to eliminate even the most conspicuous hippie-station World Family bar so far, neither dispand the vagrants  from the Mar de Fora beach or dissolve nightly campfires).

15969868_10155009843674189_1771555206_n.jpg

At the lighthouse, formerly. Ocean and sky in the backround, rocks under me. Nice place.

What happened is that I went to the lighthouse with the donkey as I had been doing it regularly for 3 years when I was in Fisterra playing the flute, letting kids ride on Rocinante, donkey-stamping and selling handmade stuff according to an honour system (for as much as they want to pay) for receptive tourists and pilgrims. At the weekends always there are enough people which guaranteed a certain possibility to save some money when I started to be bankrupt.

The acoustics are brilliant, the weather is totally unpredictable at such an extravagant place: this time I had just started tuning up when I got totally soaked in 10 minutes as I had to pitch up my moorings. Before leaving as a farewell gift Rocinante shitted himself onto the asphalt which he usually never does which he usually does onto the grass or rather keep it inside until "home". I did not have any chance to tidy it up because of the storm so we just skipped away. Upon returning the following day to the lighthouse the deputy mayor was rambling around there and seized the opportunity to scold me about the donkey shit. I explained what happened and also mentioned that the area is full of goat’s and dog’s shit (one owner is grazing his herd of goats constantly here and dogs come with the turists & the inhabitants) so basically there is shit from various animals only difference being that the donkey’s shit is a bit bigger. He told to clean it up next time, so I apologized and that’s it for that day.

Despite this agreement the following day the Policia Local rushed to me (they must have been called by the two trash-seller souvenirists of the lighthouse) with the story about the shit from the previous day. I told them I had already agreed with the boss, but the policeman suggested to me to go away. So why, huh? Because to be there with a donkey is forbidden. But the donkey is just an animal like a dog or a goat which can stay there. Are you a donkey-hater? I was suggested going away immediately and the deputy mayor would respond to me. I got the name of the deputy mayor to contact at the town hall.

Local acquintances of mine with different ages, genders and ideologies who know the past of this deputy mayor gave me various advices to handle this situation. But I did not want to threaten, that is not my manner. I just went to persuade him about my rights with my "cannibal Spanish". On the wall in his office there's a picture of Che Guevara, but I suspect the Comandante would not have been proud of him at all because he treats people who want to break free like shit for a nice salary. He was just telling me bullshit without knowing any kind of law rules to utilize against me, although I asked him for it. He said ’OK, maybe it is not forbidden to be there with animals, but it is prohibited to accept money for anything apart from those two souvenir sellers who have licenses’. But I did not ask for payment, whoever wanted to put as much they want into the hat, that’s fine, but that’s all. Although loads of people were doing the same like me and nobody was ever told anything about it, but it’s alright.

15978521_10155009843619189_624399688_n.jpg

Loving parents of Fisterra's mayor: Richard Nixon and Eric Cartman… Ok, I don’t even know him just imagine like this.

So the following day I went back again to the lighthouse to chill beside a guitarist street musician guy. He said he was not harassed at all. Neither that day, nor ever. Nonetheless I was not playing the flute that time, just sitting on the grass next to the donkey doing my things in peace. No stamp, no hat. However people still came to chat with me about my goals, my living conditions, asking to stroke the donkey, making enquires about the donkey pin badges and how to get them, for free or for whatever they wish to donate. They keep asking for a ride on the donkey for their kids or a family photo together with the donkey, ’these are the selfies of the century’, and they also offered money whilst going into raptures over this final stop of the pilgrimage by the ocean… Always there are a lot of smiles at these situations, I love it!

That was the moment when the cop came again  may a bunch of shitty-assed chihuahuas yap above his bed!

He wanted to send me away again, it did not matter I had already agreed upon with the deputy mayor, dependent on the fact that I was not bumming here, I did not have a hat, I did not deal with anything like the others I was just following the rules as an honest foreign pilgrim (one of those who upkeeps the village and half of Galicia you know, Señor Policeman). Then he started shouting and annotating something, wanted to take a denouncement against me on the ground of committing animal cruelty, because the donkey was not in the shade. I told him the donkey could be in the shade as well but he preferred grazing on the grass in the sunshine as a donkey is a very gluttonous and sun-loving animal. The cop kept shouting and asking me why I did not do this all in Muxia. I told him I would do it there, too, from tomorrow when we would go away. After this comment he said adios to me. He must have thought I would not go to speak with the deputy mayor instead I would just sneak off without saying anything.

 15995887_10155009843759189_1960764702_n.jpg

After Mr. Cop had driven away I immediately took a photo to prove the donkey had a chance to go into shade. (Obviously the shade is moving all the time but there is always a potential to get it.) Police serves and protects here as well just hard to find out who is being protected. Neither the people who love the donkey, nor the donkey (whose droppings were already collected into a bag), who loves the people and that loads of carrot which he gets as rewards, meanwhile the policeman abuses the animal to catch me, which seems quite unfair, so consequently he served and protected the business... ONLY THE BUSINESS!!

15996116_10155009843714189_2047239003_n.jpgI was complaining about this situation to my permament, temporary and one-time friends nightly around the fire. Last night an English guy who had been bumming there for a while at the Mar de Fora beach asked me if I enjoyed this mini battle with the authorities and I really found it a fair question which I had not been thinking about till that time. But, as I think about it, OF COURSE I ENJOYED! It is a kind of pleasure to follow the behaviour that feels right. The guy was satisfied with my answer as giving me a pat on the back and highfive. Comand- and Rocinante would be proud of me in turn... Then I left Fisterra (however not to Muxia at the end).

But!

Apart from the shit I had a couple of nice meetings as it usually happens, thanks God. I have something important to tell especially if I already mentioned lookouts in the title intro of this entry. I met the people who gave me the final motivation to walk home which about I had been hesitating for a long time to do. I would walk home with Rocinante to take him into retirement, but before we would go to Rome as well...

He is going to be 22 years old this year which is the time for retirement counting in human age. He is in excellent shape because he lives an eventful, active life with outstanding holidays but he really deserves the eventual holiday. The experiences which he has already collected so far are more than enough for a donkey, so this walking home would be his final big job.

I wondered if walking to Hungary from the end of the world might be such a mission that other people would also be interested in. I have a kind of inner force to use this experiment for sharing and stimulating the others although I am pretty sure that a lot of frustrated people will be disturbed by this (getting so many unfair critics just because I do not act according to their known and conventional way instead I try to create a more liveable one for myself).

Let’s just think about the main inducement of these happenings in Fisterra: the hyenas cling onto the first actual irregularity, which was the donkey shit (meanwhile immeasurable amounts of shit and rubbish have been left behind tourists and pilgrims) just because for a few hours while we were staying there with Roci the trash-seller (who paid the government for the licence) sold a little bit less tasteless expensive trash.

As I see the system which we were born into makes only very few people happy and this single fact is already enough to make the others sick. I would like to afford the chance to those ones who agree with me and consider this all social structure is degenerative, that it is not necessary to stay in and live like that. People are forced to believe that this is the system they need to follow, that’s why I'll try to give an example for the opposite. The change inside a structure (for example earning more money instead of less) is a fake appearance. For achieving a real change we must step out of the circle or make the circle change in our level – me personally I rather find this example to be followed.

I was talking about these kind of things with that Hungarian couple who I was watching the sunset together with one day near the lighthouse. At one moment they raised the topic about their changes of profession and lifestyle: András, the ex-lawyer is becoming a movie-maker and would like to record documentaries. My walking home with a donkey could be a perfect topic. Marcsi, the ex-model became a make-up artist and could help in some background jobs and project management as well.  So we decided to figure the continuation out togerther. This is what is going on nowadays… Fisterra, while it tries to get rid of me gives me new friends like them in the same time: it is a reinforced sign for moving. The direction is given anyway: go with the flow!

15978759_10155009844139189_1099946287_n.jpg

Marcsi & András

After all these happenings I came home for three weeks. I went to the Valley of Arts, then Ozora Festival where I finally got to know why dogs howl at the moon in chorus (because that is fun!!), then we celebrated the 90th birthday of my grandma and the 40th of my brother, I met relevant friends and in the next place I returned to Galicia to start making the minimum amount of money for the beginning of the donkey-mission by stamping and playing the flute at one of my favourite places, a druid footbridge next to Mélide, 50km before Santiago. To begin the trip I would need a camera, a phone, a serviceable tablet with a keyboard to report upon ourselves regularly and to record the adventures. Moreover I would need a new sleeping-bag,a pack equipment, vaccination for the donkey, loads of pálinka obviously and approximately 2 months in Hungary to organize everything for the journey...

I reckon it is likely that I could find a sponsor for this plan, but I do not really want it. That would already tie my hands or the hooves of Rocinante. I would consider a sponsor who would offer something that I already support by myself. Popularizing something with photos and prize games for a brand cannot be included in this case. For now I have not figured out the solution yet so instead I just collect the minimum of money by myself and if I run out of it, I will improvise. That will be exciting!

15942034_10155009844129189_2132706664_n.jpg

Donkey-stamping station. If I am there, I am stamping and chatting, if not usually I just get messages like this (’… We saw the donkey and he reminded us of ourselves…’) whilst Roci keeps stamping I guess, hehe.

The stories and meetings of Mélide have been documenting on Facebook more or less, then also my long weekend in London, but we encountered innumerable amounts of people, animals and situations as a matter of cause. Now I am already in Budapest where a multiple-recidivious pilgrim has accomodated me for two months at a rich district of Buda. It is quite weird compared to my tent and now I am getting a brand new Budapest-experience at the same time. I keep in touch with Marcsi and András, we are already working on a mutual presentation about the Camino – details later...;)

I have a ticket to Porto for the second half of February from where I am going to walk to Santiago – for the first time alone, without donkey. It will be perfect for charging my inner batteries for the journey which will be ended with the retirement of Rocinante. From Portugal it will take appr. two weeks to reach the monastery of San Martiño to pick Roci up and continue the way together towards France then Italy. So the current Plan ’B’ is going to Rome and Assisi first, after it I would leave the donkey somewhere in Italy for a short time and a few months later I would return to keep on the trip to the small beautiful town of Szentendre.

Anyway, man proposes, God disposes… Happy new year!!! :)

These are cookies, Takashi’s ’roba’ cookies. (Roba is donkey in Japanese.) It is also done for the new year: https://robacookie.wordpress.com/

the-great-japanese-zero-yen-note1.jpeg

As I was jogging through the rooms of the British Museum I was just looking for something to spot which is worth to spend that little time with and after this ’roba year’ it couldn't be else but the section of Japan at the Asia floor. On the left side you can see the "0 yen bill": it was an avantgarde art creation that drove to an absurd incient. On the right side there is a fascinating, fancy-mustached samurai suit... Just examples which affect me.

Budapest fever! (My view from Buda nowadays) ^_^

2016 – A szamár éve (II./I. rész) / 2016 – Year of the Donkey (Part II./I.)

Évösszegzés, előretekintés, egyéb csacskaságok – Első félév: Takashi és Chewie históriája / Annual summary, foresight and other sweet nothings – First semester: History of Takashi and Chewie

HUN:

Milyen a szamár? Szép, hasznos, nyugodt… talán szürke, eltűnik a ködben és Schrödinger szamaraként viselkedik, egyszer-egyszer viszont zajos, csapongó, kiszámíthatatlan. Szóval fasza! A szamár egy fasza állat. 2016 meg fasza év volt.

15683587_10154942510289189_1167969450_n.jpg

Ezúton is köszönöm!

15683038_10154942511324189_66642987_n.jpg

Kommunikációs repertoárjából hiányzik a panaszkodás, ahogy minden egyéb negatív megnyilvánulás is. Kitart és bíztat, mosolyog és tisztel. Szépíti a világot, és ezzel engem is. A „keep calm and carry on” (avagy „kussba’ vagy oszt dógozol”) ultraszimpi japán verzióját hozza. Ezek a tapasztalataim ővele, úgy tűnik, felül is írták dél-amerikai törekvéseimet: a véges időtartamú Camino küldetés befejeztével már nem feltétlenül oda vágynék először, hanem mindenekelőtt Japánba. Azután jöhet Argentína és Uruguay, meg Peru és Chile. Go with the flow, ugyebár.

Chewie számára szerintem én lehettem a szigorú nagybácsi.

15673301_10154942515094189_1695365189_n_1.jpg

Húzza-vonja, motiválja Takashi a jószágot, tök esélytelen; Chewie irtózik a víztől.

Csakhogy a caminon szoktak ám lenni angyalok!

Takashi a szamaras zarándokútja óta hatalmas Chewie projekten dolgozik, melynek egyik szimbóluma a Repülő Chewie. A példaképem. Takashi animo!!

Addig is BOLDOG KARESZT, REMEK SZILVIT KÍVÁNOK!

Ez például most világos? … Holott a rombolás és a mondatnál nagyobb szövegszerkezeti egységek (pl. bekezdés) privát értelmezési deficitjének folyamatos, erőszakos demonstrálása helyett élhetne a csendben lapulás kézenfekvő lehetőségével, ami mindig fennáll.

ENG:

According to the Chinese calendar 2016 was the year of the monkey, and according to the Japanese it was certainly the year of the donkey. What’s the donkey like? Beautiful, useful, calm… maybe grey, disappears in the fog and behaves like Schrödinger’s donkey, however sometimes a bit noisy, capricious, unpredictable. So, totally cool! Donkey is a cool animal. And 2016 was a cool year.

15683587_10154942510289189_1167969450_n.jpg

Spoiler picture :)

In January I completed my state exam in Debrecen, in school psychology master's degree. I did a good shit, but anyway, neither I felt otherwise that time. (By the way, don’t panic, I’m not planning to make use of the degree, e.g. to find job with it or something like this.)

At that time I was already in exchange of letters with Takashi, who walked along the Camino Frances starting from the Pyrenees a year before with his wife. They met me and Rocinante in the villages of El Bierzo, directly before Galicia. We had two conversations all in all, and he told me already at the second time that he’ll return from Japan to pilgrimage with a donkey like I do, he already even discussed it with his wife. Beause it’s something special, from which he can draw a lot. Many people say it ‘cause they feel this way, so I always leave my contact in case they would truly return as burrogrinos, so that I could help what I can. But nobody has returned yet...

Until now!

I told Takashi the story of poor little Tolstoy, my second donkey with whom we did our pilgrimage on the route of the Camino Norte, starting from the little town of Llanés in Asturias, back in March 2014, and who I then gave as a present to the Aurora de los Caminos cooperative (where Rocinante also spends his holidays sometimes when I’m out of Spain). Arriving in the near to the oceanfront Muxia, Takashi with wife visited the old monastery building, where the Auroras and Tolstoy are camping, so that he would make friends with these people and the little donkey. So in January, he already wrote me about borrowing Tolstoy from the monastery if it’s OK for me too, and he would walk with him a long one in late spring.

Of course I’m in, since I was the one who recommended him to ask the donkey from them, and I would be the happiest if Tolstoy would be a pilgrim once again for some weeks; only that at this time, sadely, Tolstoy was no longer alive. One night, they left him to graze a ittle bit further from the building than they used to, and there the wolves ate him... (The wolf attack happened in November 2015 – back then, a lot of ominous shadows also possessed my life besides this.)

15713220_10154942514934189_1022450026_n.jpg

Dear Tolstoy, you were a great friend with hard-working and difficult life, unworthy death. Thank you for your educational and psychological work completed on me, Rest In Peace!

Since I was planning to return to Rocinante in March, the situation was clear: we will find a new donkey for Takashi, and I will do my best to be present at the business and to assist at the first pilgrim’s steps. Together with Roci of course! So in the beginning of March I picked Rocinante from the oceanfront and slowly, step by step we marched to Burgos, which seemed an optimal starting point for Takashi to walk to Santiago and Fisterra.

It was on my way to Burgos that I started to write this blog. It’s still quite mixed-up and random (I’ll change, I swear I’ll be good… and I swear I will also swear it many times), but it helps a lot in my solitude, and every one of viewers and commenters, friends of St.James found online again honours me and cheers me up. I would like to thank you also on this platform, again!!

15683038_10154942511324189_66642987_n.jpg

After two years, in Burgos I could meet my equestrian pilgrim friend Rafael again, who’s the mayor of a nearby village, and who helped me and Takashi a lot during our stay there. Gratitude, respecto, aigato!!

A Spanish friend and me independently from each other found the same donkey stallion for sale for Takashi, there, close to Burgos. So Takashi turned that way in mid-May, got known and immediately embraced in his heart this little fluffyness, and named him Chewie. (Great name, but I’m rather a trekkie /=Star Trek fan/: I named Spock the cat I gave my mother as present two years ago.:))

15712985_10154942513744189_1513076203_n.jpg

Takashi with his donkey

A 4-year-old non-castrated donkey stallion can be quite unruly. Life is not easy with him, especially at the beginning. But Takashi based the donkey education on the strongest foundation of love and formed a rock-solid relationship with Chewie. He often overwhelmed himself, but not the donkey – in the name of responsibility and the progress. Respect!! Thus, we were definitely progressing well, we could celebrate his 68th birthday already in León, where I had to reflect on myself deeply ‘cause it became clear that this man is younger, more enthusiastic and more badass than me, regardless of the number of years. He carries out anything because he doesn’t want to take note of obstacles. His communication repertoire doesn’t include complaining, neither any kind of negative expressions. He keeps on and encourages, honours and smiles at you, continuously. Makes the world greater, and thus, makes me greater too. He brings the amazingly appealing Japanese version of “keep calm and carry on”. These experiences with him now seem to overwrite my South-American aspirations: after the Camino mission of finite duration I wouldn’t necessarily wish to travel America first, but above all to Japan. Then can come Argentina and Uruguay, Peru and Chile. Go with the flow, isn’t it?!

For Chewie I played the role of the strict uncle

When the donkey’s already on the bridge, he’s not afraid any more, and he also steps on the next bridge without problem, but as for the first time he has to be forced, otherwise he never learns how to cross. It differs from a dog or a horse. The same case stands for stairs and for the stepping into water. It’s in Rocinante’s blood for a time, so it meant a big relief that Chewie was following him… but not everywhere… and than it came my turn...

Our ways separated in Villafranca del Bierzo, exactly in the near of the place where my first encounter with Mr. and Mrs. Takashi happened. To this point, unfortunately we missed the “gazing into the water” training; there was no possibility and need of it until then. Since then and right now Chewie is on pilgrimage again, with Marta, with whom afterwards in the autumn we made up for this course, maybe the most difficult at the Donkey University’s pilgrim assistant major.

15673301_10154942515094189_1695365189_n_1.jpg

More than two years ago, at the end of her second pilgrimage I met Stefanie the first time. Since then she’s travelling and surviving, working and self-actualizing, planning and realizing (right now, for example, an albergue on the way to the ocean). She crossed our way in autumn just when Marta with Chewie was with me next to Melide for a few days, so of course she joined the training session too. It’s a hardcore job at its best, but it may seem on the faces that it’s joyful and uplifting too.

(It is already the practicing phase on the picture, but this had to be preceded by the moment when two people draw the donkey from the front and I grab him on top of the thigh while I hold him not to be able to kick backwards, and then, carry him into the water by quasi lifting the animal. And the funnier this activity to watch, the more tiring it to do… I never had to fight an animal so hard. And, believe me, I already had a history with some donkeys and we had even water adventures with them, but Chewie is an extremely strong and stubborn creature…. I have to admit I almost crapped myself of the exertions.)

15683560_10154942512854189_1913803928_n.jpg

Villafranca del Bierzo – Iglesia de Santiago (Porta de Gloria)

As I said we stucked at Villafranca with Rocinante, so Takashi and Chewie had to challenge with the elements without us since then. They succeeded very well up to Sarria from where Santiago de Compostela is only 110km far away. Directly following Sarria there’s a small river flowing, above which only a ramshackle wooden bridge lead through. Anyway, it’s a very impressive forest scene, many people even take photos, but for donkeys it’s not really accessible. They would have waded into the water, but back then Chewie was not yet able to perform this act. Takashi is trying to pull, drawing and motivating the animal, completely hopeless. Chewie has aversion to water...

But it’s important to know that always there are angels on the Camino!

Four big shaped angels appeared out of the nothing who escorted a disabled person in electric wheelchair on the way. They grabbed the electric wheelchair from the four sides, lifted and carried it through the stream. Then they returned to act as angels, to save the situation, and after some discussion they grabbed the donkey as well and carried it through the stream the same way. Blessed be their names, the star wars pilgrimage could continue from the other side of the stream up to Santiago, then to Buxán (next to Fisterra), where Chewie was taken care by Marta and her friends.

Since his donkey pilgrimage Takashi is working on a great Chewie project, a logo of which is the Flying Chewie. Details are secret yet...;) It’s so wonderful to know someone who dreams and immediately makes them come true! He is my role model. TAKASHI ANIMO!

That was a great long march with meaningful encounters, countless new experiences and inexpressible beauties… For Roci and me this is the first semester of the year of donkey

To be continued with the second one...;)

¡¡FELIZ NAVIDAD, PROSPERO AÑO NUEVO!!

London Crawling - Egy spanyolországi magyar a londoni magyar helyzetről

langos.jpg

Mundo Maravillo del Invierno … E kép miatt végre bárki csúfolhat lángosképűnek! (Lángososkép a LION Fb-group oldaláról)

A fent szereplő Denevérember és a füléből fehér gumiszalagot lövellő Robin arra utalgatnak, hogy honfitársaink belépve a rendezvényre bizony egyből mennek a lángosra. Kivéve minket… mi a rétesre mentünk. (Gimiben is lázadók voltunk!

Felette a tábla: „poppy ceed”.

„Megsúgjam, mennyi a bérleti díj?” - vágja csípőre a kezét a kalocsai Pap Rita (megj.: ez a kézmozdulat a feka csajok nyakforgatós kisanyámozásának pannon változata). „Megsúgjam, mennyi az előállítási költsége? Semennyi.”

Íjj, be csúf... Homer Simpsontól tanultam, hogy ha ilyen állapotodban valaki hozzáér a jobb kezedhez, akkor bal kézzel le kell ütni, azzal a szöveggel, hogy „EL A KEZEKKEL A NEJEMTŐL!”… Most olvastam, hogy a Glasgow-i Egyetemen végre elkezdték tanítani Homer Simpson filozófiáját.

A főorvos úr lánya, ugye?” …

Kedvencünk a Sörsödi Bor!

Utóbbi hetekben a kiégés tüneteit kezdtem produkálni a caminon, ezért nem is írtam semmit mostanában; nem lett volna hiteles. A Londonban átszállós trükk bevált, a rekreáció sikeresen lezajlott, ismét van bennem ötlet és kedv.

Köszi szépen, Luci és Balázs!!! Meghálálási alkalmat kérek Galíciában!!!

skygarden.jpg

:DDD

/ HÁZI FELADAT:  A szövegben elrejtettem valahol a „csacsi” betűsort. A becsületes megtalálók közt kisorsolásra kerül egy cv-hez csatolható kifejezés-keresőmező használati és billentyűkombináció-ismereti képesítés; londoni munkakeresésnél jól jöhet ;) /

HUN:

Mendoza... én a bikának szurkolok!

est3.png

A legkorábbi fellelhető kép Rocinantéról :)

Reunion 2016

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ENG:

I wouldn’t have had the desire to write down the following story by myself, ’cause ever since I have to tell it to someone almost every day. So many people ask: „How the hell did you find this poor cattle, hombre?” ... And now the life – by a nice surprise – has saved me from all of this, as after 3 years I bumped into Zita, the Hungarian peregrine, again, who’d met Rocinante even before I met him, and has now illustrated with her own pictures and written my memoirs instead of me – from her own perspective of course.

For me, to read it was incredibly entertaining, viewing these life-determinating days from someone else’s point of view. I was camping for about one and a half week in the border of Estella playing on a flute to collect money for the donkey for sale of Navarra’s most famous bull killer, Pablo Hermoso Mendoza... I’m preserving the thought that “I’ll remember these moments for the rest of my life, I swear it”… This has been this way so far and I don’t regret it. Zita helped me now so that it will remain this way, THANK YOU!!!

est4.png

Mendoza... I support the bull!

“I owe you a story:

I started with a friend of mine on the French Way in September 2013, arrived together in Estella, where our accommodation was located on a hill. After we unpacked and had a shower, we decided to go and have dinner in the town. A small road led into the center from the albergue, there wasn’t a soul apart from us, except for a suspiciously weird character with a few meters behind us. Sometimes he came a little bit closer, sometimes moved a little bit further. My brain started to play nightmares unwillingly and I imagined myself already practicing the spinning kicks learnt from Chuck Norris. Okay, to be frank, my muscles had so big soreness that I was only hardly able to move but I hoped for the adrenaline to help me when it should happen. And suddenly the strange figure asked “are you Hungarians?” This was my first encounter with Roland. We started to talk and he said that his backpack is so heavy, he is hardly able to walk so he decided to play Hungarian folk songs on the way to collect money for a donkey. They signed the contract just the next day and the donkey was also already in the town, but a couple of Euros were still missing from the full price. We told him that we saw a donkey in the church’s garden when we entered the town, and he answered that will be his and he hadn’t even seen it yet! We talked a little bit more and then we parted ways ‘cause he’s going to get to know his future donkey and anyway, next day we’ll see each other…

est3.png

The earliest available picture of Rocinante :)

And we did meet the next day, he was like he’d said it, sitting beside the road and playing folk songs. Then we didn’t meet, but always heard about him. (Even in 2014 on the Portugese way! :) )

est1.png

How not to buy a donkey in Spain - 1st rule: Don't give 700 Euro for it!

And now, I’m on my way at the Primitivo, passing Melide, and I’m just trying to decide whether it is my blisters or my knee that hurts more, when arriving to a brook I catch sight of a donkey tied to a tree. There’s no man at his side, however I noticed a tent several meters behind him. I told the donkey: „ You can’t be THAT DONKEY, can you?! And where is your dad?” He got totally excited, he seemed to know this is an extraordinary moment of our life! OK, this is not true, actually he didn’t give a shit that I was there. So I had to do something and at first just shyly, then I started to call Roland by his name more bravely. After a little time the tent opened and Roland stepped out of it!!! I couldn’t believe my eyes!!! He didn’t even wake up properly but I started immediately to tell him that for 3 years, in Estella… you know… the donkey… you bought it… and he knew it!:)

I haven't been so happy about a reunion since long, seriously, it made my day! (And even now, whenever it comes to my mind!) We had a nice conversation! It was that time I promised that I’ll write the story. Maybe with a little delay, but I succeeded! But it’s tranquilo, isn’t it? :) ”

El Camino in February {Pt.12.} [The End]

He who moves with the ages creates the new age

ENG:

This letter (or rather “retrospective diary”) was written in March 2014 in 20 pages, which was then sent to 20 of my friends. The unsophisticated style occurring sometimes is due to the primary audience of friends. On those reading through themselves, it usually had a nice impact: many of them reported meditative experience pulling out of everyday greyness, that’s why I made the whole of it available here, in 12 parts - this one is the final part. /…/ When I reported about my pilgrimage and my plans to return home, many told me they envied me. It’s strange for me because I was never in a position to envy. But you who’ve read the story of this short pilgrimage may be able to see that the main part of my project is torment and hardship. I don’t think many would like to complete it this way. However, these difficulties bring lots of joy for me, and therefore, since I went to hitchhike to Budaörs in the end of August and slept at the bank of a ditch ‘cause nobody’s brought me that day, from that day on neither I am envy of anybody, as I feel that I’m there where I’m supposed to be right now… And nobody should want to be there where I’m supposed to be.

I’ve got no money, no job, no woman, neither do I have Martini, champaign, internet, not even food sometimes, however, I appreciate in every moment that e.g. the socks on my feet are clean and dry, even if I only have two pairs of them in all. And two t-shirts, a shorts and a trousers. Why the hell should I have more stuff?! And meanwhile I feel in my guts that my life line is moving towards something great this way. If we deconstruct and reduce the ego to the minimum, this feeling in the guts is the communication chanel to God! But it will mystify us until we don't do this deconstruction...

Moreover, I’ve got time! Which by the way doesn’t exist as we know, but I have it, wehehe… to run, meditate, read Nietzsche and Jung, and to write that long retrospection for you. And I’ve got ocean, sandy beach, stony relaxation place. And a lot of shit to be thrown out of my mind, so I’m waiting for the wifi-connection to empty it a little bit to my blog. I immediately post my first “theatrical play”, you can soon check it out. I was laughing a lot while I was writing it... And some day there will be a camino blog too!1

A narrow little evening pilgrim jamboree

So far the biggest number of pilgrims in this albergue were 5 in one night, when we also did kind of a little party. This time there’s the typical emotional talks and fate analysis, which is cool, so the tendency should start, to bring at least this number of pilgrims a day. Since I arrived in Galicia this was the first time I got drunk a bit. By rarifying these events, this also counts as a celebration.

It was just the third day of my stay here when a pyknic-looking local guy around fifty came in and said that he sees from outside I’m alone, sure I’m bored – do I want to buy stuffs from him. Obviously there’s no budget for things like this, there’s total puritanism but it’s cool that things are going smoothly here. And that lad is a good guy, sometimes comes to talk a bit without any special reason. leggitor.jpg Doing this Spanish people like a lot. There was a carnival tent party, a kind of Spanish village celebration day, the dude was there in a clown costume and people were marching to the stage in groups to make fool of themselves for free, which activity I value above all things; that’s why I think the world of the institution of Karaoke and also used to be the emperor of every air guitar contests.

Pure strength and harshness - air guitar contest Sziget 2005, that time the second place only ;((((

There came a pilgrim looking for some kind of hippies. I didn’t know of whom he was talking about but anyway I mentioned him the cooperative of Auroras, and by the time I went there to visit Rocinante, the guy was already there, staying as long as next October. There are interesting faces who appear especially concentrated out of the camino season. A big piece of a Latvian guy from Riga has been marching by foot for 6 months through Lithuania, Poland, Germany and France. He was story-telling during the whole evening, then arrived another delinquent of the day, a German retired man with the maximum of 55 kilos who started to explicate how much weight he lost on the pilgrimage but still felt fat. While his legs’ diameter is around the size of my arms’. And the Latvian guy who by the way was actually fat couldn’t really react to it so just blinked a few and then went to sleep without a word, however until then he didn’t shut his mouth for even a second. I’ve never seen an anorexic man, especially not in a sixties release. I always believed it is a body image disorder of teenage girls... By the way, it’s an open-plan room with kind of quasi-bulkheads – one night I woke up for the fact that the separately arrived German guy in his fifties and the alemana with 35 of age are screwing... So, stuffs like that.

Yesterday the first Hungarian pilgrim arrived, together with the first awkward moments. Big rover with a pack of 30 kilos and with some more years lived. He trampled down the Northern camino. The boss went to deal with something while I was writing the guy’s personal data. He’s already heard about me in Santiago, about the Hungarian with the donkey. So we have sympathized a little bit when it turned out he’s got no money… uh-oh. But he’s got stones from which he prepares jewelries – could he pay with stone donativo? My head just became heavy ‘cause since Balázs arrived here from Budapest, I heard at least three times his opinion about this kind being so unabashed and stories that he took a knock many times because of them. And “you don’t say on the bus, neither in the shop that sorry I don’t have money” etc., so I’m not to let this kind of pilgrim in, especially that we hardly have paying guests. (This connection I don’t really understand, but I’m just an employee or what.) So I told the guy that I don’t think this could be an option. He insisted that he would even work, he’s good in many things in case there’s stuffs to repair or anything like that. He waited until Balázs returned, this time we were talking. Although, I strongly empathize with these survivor pilgrims since I’m one of them too. Moreover this is from Debrecen, very much remembers me of the singer of the popular band from Debrecen "Tankcsapda" (called Lukács Laci), maybe they are relatives but I failed to ask, plus thing that his first names are Lukács and Márk, which are my confirmation names.

However, he asked incredibly lamely: when the owner returned complaining (as usual he does) that he hasn’t eaten anything today and also his car needs to be taken to the mechanic, and the guy then: “Balázs, would it be OK if I pay with stones?” … “Well, it fucking wouldn’t!”and he flooded the guy the same ocean of arguments with educational intent, so I’ve listened it for the fourth time, and the usual part of which is also that how annoying if somebody is incapable even to ask. So far I thought it means an unashamed-ungrateful pretentiousness, but this lad was only asking very awkwardly. (By the way, not everyone is a communication genius, asking is really a great skill to have, as well as receiving, thanking. And, well, giving too.)

He told me while leaving that okay that we also have no money but it doesn’t cost anything if he sleeps here, and according to the principle of fairness we should help our compatriot in the distance, and instead he even got to be fucking told off. The problem is that I totally agree this. I can’t even imagine how one can not agree with it.

Then it turned out that Balázs just didn’t sympathize with him, that’s why he didn’t even think about helping. But the thing is that he didn’t even have a sentence of conversation with him. They shook hands, he was stinking and got into the box of parasite bums, and from that on he wasn’t interested in him at all. As you could have read above, I also got into situations to permanently have homeless bouquet without the ability of doing anything about it. And I talked with this guy and I received a much more detailed picture of him, which I don’t want to fill the place with. I only go into details regarding some happenings in a baroque style so that I give a look about resonances of my little soul, in this certain case about my cognitive dissonance (=acting against my attitude, and the resulting feeling of discomfort).

Anyway, he could be “not so OK”, he didn’t even have an identity card, only a passport, he told when Bajnai ex- prime minister introduced the passport with chip and fingerprints (does it really exist?), he suddenly made one of the old type valid for 10 years. First I was thinking maybe he’s just irritated by the Orwell-afterfeeling, which I am actually. But if my theory is true and he’s a relative of Lukács Laci, then Lukács must be his second name ‘cause who the hell is named Lukács nowadays. My child is born, how I should name him, eh... let’s see... Lukács! Do you like it, woman? Eh… good… Do anyone of you have an acquaintance named Lukács? I don’t. He may have arranged in the bureaucratic mazes that they write it as a first name ‘cause the family name stated a typical Hungarian "guess name" that you say to data-asking controllers coming first to your mind… Despite all of this I would naturally let him in if it was up to me, as it is my mania to strengthen compatriot ties.[2] (Moreover, it weights a lot how you speak about places, say, if he speaks about it to some people how they dealt with him here, it can easily stick to us, so even if I told him to leave, maybe I would have been more diplomatic or at least a more professional kind of host like “OK, you take a shower, sleep, leave before 9 am and tell everyone how cool this place is but don’t say about you getting it for free” – I would have solved the situation like this… I also have to add if I had a place like this, probably I would have lead it to bankrupt already... I'm not a good capitalist. But at least already not even a bad one. I'm just simply not a capitalist.)

Albergue Delfín (Muxia) nowedays – the owner is already a Hungarian lady called Roze, hugs to her from here :)

So much for the past. As for the present, there’s relax and happiness. I wasn’t starving as a teacher or as a tender-writer, but still have goose bumps if I remember those times. And here I’m all smiles even just looking out of the show-window with full panorama. According to the boss Balázs, it’s good to spend a transitional period as a volunteer or a pilgrim but for the future you must have some kind of “perspectives”. Only that for me this is the perspective itself! Especially if I read that certain book, even I could think too that there’s no past and future...

Viewing the sunrise from the mountain of Muxia

For me Paul Watzlawic’s book entitled Change was an attitude changing basic work, let me recommend it here. The book is about why many of us feel themselves inside the cycle of their problems, no matter how they change the settings. They change their living place, work, husband, then find themselves in the same shit again. Because the real change is on second order: doesn’t happen in the same system but quits it. One doesn’t realize that in the same system only the same result can happen from the same ingredients. And the ingredient – yourself – you can’t change so the system has to be changed. I am definitely on the way to quit the system which wants to dictate I have to have a so called perspective that in this content is equal to have a career. And I think people can actually have a higher perspective than that in this world. For example to make it better.

I was really trying what am I good at and in the given system I was actually shitty or maximum an average in everything but now I’ve found (and partly created) something: I’m good at pilgrimage. Only that it’s outside the system… This all doesn’t mean I want to stay here on the Camino forever. It would be nice to try out other things too here or at home or other places, but I don’t think one have to see everything in the world. There’s not only learning by induction but also by deduction: we see and experience some things and get the “formula” and draw the conclusion regarding other things as well, of course while carefully and consciously avoiding of boxing in stereotypes.

After the Barcelona guys the next person with whom I was talking about Uruguay was Renée who hasn’t got idea about the existence of this country before his pilgrimage. Then he was walking together with a pilgrim from Uruguay telling a lot about it – so did he to me. For example that it’s a traditionally agricultural country and people don’t really need anything else, they love the rustic characteristics and also the nature, which the government also protects. President Mujica is a legend, right, requesting only 10% of the wages, living in a farm around Montevideo and drives to work in his ancient VW Beatle. They can’t stand him in the UN ‘cause he stands up in shorts and sandals to support things like stopping the industrialization of the world, because if the number of cars per person in India will be the same as in Germany for example, then it will mean the end of the planet. Obviously he’s not participating in the world press, only in independent forums, as it is better if all that people in the world know is it’s an insignificant country with a relatively good football team and that’s all. However, he’s a national hero at home, in his youth he was a guerrilla together with his wife. Every representative has only one cycle there, so does he, then goes back to work, there’s no imbedding into concrete, which resulted a cross-party politician-businessman mafia since the regime change in Hungary. I’ve read a touristic blog, in which people collect 10 positive and 10 negative facts about certain countries. In connection with Uruguay they only found 7 negative things, among which there’s one like it’s boring to drive there ‘cause you hardly find other cars on the roads – so, there’s 11 positive facts. Moreover, we talked about the country also with the Brazilian journalist lady who has already spent a lot of her time there, likes to chill out, as she considers Brazil very businesslike, in contrast to Uruguay which is still full of virgin beaches for long kilometers… Must-seen. Who comes?

As a long term goal I’d like to get free of the prison of the fucking money and move towards self-preservation and rotate the conclusions of it – towards which I’m just doing the first steps. I would need money, but actually I’m not so anxious without it already. I’m pretty sure that if the whole population of Europe and America lived so and consumed as much as me in the past one and a half month, the ecosystem would get into balance as well as the people’s set of value, and the terrorist monocracy of broker-banker world mafia would upset. I am now finally the one who doesn’t speak things into the air as a smart-ass philologist but actually does the things. I’m the modern human, fuck it, one must move with the times! And those, in turn, making selfies with their iPhones just stay the bitches of the age.

The fall of Don Quixote may be necessary but I still feel better than compromising beneath my dignity.

[1] And here it is, you’re just reading it. And you can smile at the old blog here: http://emberekruhaban.blog.hu/

[2] Last time a French guy stopped to rest at my little stamping station. I just had to drive away with my bike Frau Brinkmann to buy ink pad so I asked him to stamp for the people until I return. I just remembered on my way that he’s mentioned he’d spent some time in prison for thievery. But when I asked him to help out, it didn’t even come to my mind that he may rob me. I returned in an hour and he was there on the spot with sprouted money, which then I shared with him. At first he didn’t want to accept it… The feeling of unity is one of the Camino's miracle: you learn that it’s not reciprocity that you have to make with kindness and trust, but to circulate and pass. And by the way, these (my kind of) poor ones are the most grateful, sometimes in a way you don’t expect. As well as the most sensitive to hypocrites.

Camino de Muxia: Rocinante finds home, owner finds job

The venue that year:)

This letter (or rather “retrospective diary”) was written in March 2014 in 20 pages, which was then sent to 20 of my friends. The unsophisticated style occurring sometimes is due to the primary audience of friends. /…/ Next day finally I got to the pilgrim mass, which is always a cathartic experience for the arriving rovers considering the hardships of the way. When I came out from the cathedral, Rocinante was donkey-petted by an Austrian woman who’s already walked along 4 ways, is now a volunteer in one of the local private albergues and is planning for years to walk along the longest intra-Iberian Camino, the Via de la Plata starting from Sevilla – with a donkey. She is luckier than me ‘cause I didn’t have the opportunity before to talk to anyone who’s already pilgrimages with a donkey. Maybe I was a sign for her too...1 (Since then she has already visited me twice in Muxia, besides she has also spent a few days in the monastery nearby, where – spoiler alert! – I could finally place Roci.)

It was quite late when I started to head towards the ocean because the time went wasted with stuffs like visiting a woman with El Italiano. This woman wanted to buy a donkey in principle, but of course it turned out that she didn’t… How is it, if I accidentally don’t waste my time, then others will do it instead of me?? This has been the case all in my life even back in the exam periods… With Alba we also called the man in Monte do Gozo who was interested in buying Rocinante, with whom I failed to bargain because of language problems. He would like to buy it for her daughter as a hobby pet, but he wanted to bargain it surrealistically and I don’t exchange my saint pilgrim golden burro for coins… So the night reached me on the way again, but I found an awsome stable, divided into two parts: one with hay, the other with horses. We slept in the one with hay ‘cause if Rocinante starts to bray to the horses as usual, señor horse owner may come out of the house and I will be in trouble.2

It the autumn it was a big luck that I could leave Roci at Mayka’s and could head to the ocean alone from Santiago, because there are many barriers on the way there, which is impossible to accomplish with 4 hooves (e.g. circle beamed wooden bridge with enormous gaps, which put me in life danger even with hooves of my size 44). Now I had to solve these impossible situations. I barely remember anything of these days: it was hardcore marching and nothing else.

Way to the ocean: Camino de Fisterra y Muxia

The February full moon horror night has also come when I realized not only the Camino repeats your life in small, but this small Camino of mine also repeats the joys-crises-waves of the big one – in smaller design. As in the autumn there were bunch of community experiences and personal talks, now only one was from both, or as after Santiago, while still marching towards the ocean I had a chance to be alone, turn inside and deal with myself, now I had only one afternoon (when I left Roci in Monte do Gozo municipal) – and stuff like that. So now the time has come to repeat the storm of the century that was preluded by wandering-in-the-same-village-for-hours-and-finding-no-signs. (In these villages there’s totally no chance to find anyone on the streets after dark.)

When I got out of the village, for a long time there was no sign of another, but there was a woody hill 200 meters from the way, so I thought this is the place where I give my tent the coup de grace. This execution was so successful that I found the whole collapsed and stuck to me in the night. Water flew everywhere; you couldn’t even support the tent’s wall effectively. With my other hand I tried to put my clothes and my socks dripping from wastewater, the crippled lamp in my mouth and Rocinante languishing outside, no better than me. It was an indescribably long and massive torture; moreover it was outside the Camino so if, say, a tree falls on me or something, then no one finds my corpse for weeks, and this would be so derogative. We left the place still in the dark, in the middle of the storm marching along in the rain, soaking wet, to the village of Olveiroa, where we arrived to the albergue municipal for the opening (1pm).

In Olveiroa is the world’s best Galician municipal! I could cook, do the washing and sleep a damn good, with other pilgrims only flowing in late afternoon, moreover they all (there were approx. 6) chose the other dormitory so I had an own room to dry and pull myself together. In the evening they made a fire in the kitchen’s fireplace, there I remained alone until midnight, and I could dissolve the mental traces of vicissitudes in idyllic meditation again.

The reward for tolerating my ordeals without complaining was the sunshine. This is a beautiful part with mountains, ocean, moreover the Lord has provided his sign of peace after flood at the sky on several times:

Here the way splits: you decide whether you get to the Ocean heading towards Muxia or Fisterra. Along the Muxian way you find a little village, San Martiňo de Ozón, where a couple of hippie-like people are farming in a building of an old monastery, and pilgrims can also have an accommodation for donativo (=donation). I heard a lot of this place and something was telling me inside maybe they would like to have a donkey.

And so it happened!

The monastery includes a huge grassy field and also a smaller barn where there’s place for a donkey next to their five sheep. This is a „cooperativa” (which must be a legal concept I guess), you can join them for periods, like a volunteer. The founder, Marta rents the monastery building from the Santiago church, with no monks anymore but still with a medieval feeling. This is also the same kind of cultural mix, which is a characteristic of whole Galicia: Christianity is combined with Celtic traditions, and here they are also doing yoga, playing music for pleasure, archery and knightly exercises (etc.). There live children and older people too, they have guests for lunch and dinner almost every day from here and there. But obviously mostly people of derailed lives find these kinds of places, so there are some weird faces. One of the lads immediately greeted me in Hungarian, he’s learnt it some 20 languages during his wanderings... They also have a webpage: www.auroradeloscaminos.org ; https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100004402510060&fref=ts .

The next day I headed further to Muxia, which is only 9 km from here on the Camino so there was time even for a little getting-lost... The Albergue Delfín looks at the ocean bay, I had to ask for the key at the florist next door, but there was still siesta time – there’s everything closed in Hispania early-afternoon. Until this time we walked up the hill from where you can see the sea, the village and the Virxen de Barca (the pilgrimage church erected to the sailing Virgin Mary), which I especially like in this cultic-celtic environment, even with a burned roof:

Santuario Virxen da Barca /Muxia/

There was a US woman who immediately went off on the packed donkey ‘cause she works with cargo lamas at home, in the mountains. Beautiful job, just don’t cross their way when they spit... Next plan is ready: Camino with lama! Even before Portomarín I passed an ostrich farm, so I have the following animal-assisted pilgrimage too: riding an ostrich… hmm, that would kick ass…

I found horrible conditions in the Delfín: from the lot of raining all of the walls and other things made of organic material became moldy, but in three days I made the place lively and from that day on I was waiting for pilgrims who didn’t really want to arrive ever since. There’s been some 25 of them at all, some of them for two days, but all in all, this isn’t even enough for the breakeven point. In general the people are coming in greater number from around Easter that was very early last year, and be in turn very late this year.

While the big cleaning I succeeded to break a lampshade, which I tried to replace before Balázs the owner returned, but the same I didn’t find (day by day I was chasing the lady at the furnishing shop with a dictionary in my hand) and the approximately-same would have cost some 70 Euros that I didn’t have. So at Easter time with the anticipated mass coming I would like to go out to Santiago with the flute and the donkey and collect some money ‘cause – besides the lampshade – not only me but little by little Balázs (who has already returned) will also starve to death. The rent had to be paid in the winter too what he spent in Budapest without any income. In the middle of April will arrive two volunteer hospitalera (Rose & Melinda) and in turn I will walk the donkey a little bit and burn something I should get rid of in Fisterra (because this tradition is one I directly practice).

The first night Roci spent here, behind the albergue, and the next day I brought him back to the monastery in San Martiňo where he is permanently in the near. More precisely, with no packs this time he was carrying me. This 9 km was so fucking entertaining… This picture was taken from donkey-back, only from the glare shining into my eyes his shadow is missing. Smashing fun! In the background you see the mountain with the observation tower in the tip of the peninsula, on which Muxia’s been built. Plus ports in the bay:

13843476_10154452835094189_251983548_o_1.jpg

Sometimes people from San Martiňo stop by to chat when they come to shop in Muxia, besides I also visited Roci once, but in the absence of pilgrims mainly Luis the neighbor means the local relation to me. There was also wifi from him next to the wall until his router didn’t go wrong. He’s a gorgeously fashionable florist in his forties who can also give you dance lessons but in fact it’s a mystery from what he makes ends meet, ‘cause I’ve never seen costumers in the floristeria (of which there’s also another in the village of 1500 inhabitants. Plus there are two furniture stores, four banks, a taxi station, a diving shop, a costume shop for children… a little bit different than those with the same population at home where usually there’s only a pub and nothing else – OK, maybe another pub.) Luis has a wife and a cool little daughter, but in the meanwhile he does things like singing in a chore, playing the bagpipe, always preparing proper decorations for every occasions in the flower shop, spinning (!), making lace (wtf?!)... My favorite thing of all is the parquet-cruiser dog in the shop who he combs all the time and fixes her hair with rubber ring.

The other day he brought me some seafood called percebe for tasting, which is mostly similar to the feet of a dinosaur, highly expensive and you can only get it by scratching the coastal cliffs that the percebe hunters used to die in. In Hungarian, maybe it is called “sea acorn” and, yes, its eatable part is very much like the acorn of a baby. National starter of Galicia. (left: percebes; right: carrot)

percebe.jpgrepa.jpg

But mostly I live my everyday life in the potato-carrot-onion-pasta square and thus am continuously hungry. I thought that during my long pilgrimage I have already maximized the opportunities of reducing the consumer needs, but now it seems that not. Now I spend less, and only for food. I eat carrot with everything, soon I become a rabbit. If, say, it’s 5 cents less than the potato, I prepare mashed carrots instead of mashed potatoes, with oil and onion as topping. There’s only a small cooker here, but the very limited combination opportunities mobilize an extraordinary creativity in my cuisine. With spices, I say, one can make magic...

If things happened this way, I thought to give it a try how would I cope with being a vegetarian, and for 3 weeks – we can as well call it fasting – until Balázs was still away, I actually didn’t eat meat and fish. Then, you can be without it; I could devoid meat without problem. But yesterday, for example, two Italian pilgrims threw away two vacuum-packed not-so-fresh salami, nicely selectively: the packet among the plastics, the content among the organic. Of course I took it out and washed it. Sshit, it’s meat!! The fuck with wasters and the squeamish ones (and sometimes with Italians, obviously, wehe.) On one hand, it must be bad for them, on the other THE FUCK WITH THEM, GET OUT TO THE WAR FOR A LITTLE TRAINING.

Meanwhile the thought started to annoy me that from March on my monthly income is 0 HuF, as I don’t have 30 days officially worked hours in the previous 1 year – no social assistance anymore. But the student loan has to be paid, and what came to my mind only a few days ago: social insurance, as well. For a few days I have a toothache ’cause of a deep hole in it, in which the food gets stuck, I’m on the way to find a solution… Well, these things are very much likely to be included in the changing of living space and lifestyle, whatever. /.../

1 This is Nicole with whom we have already changed letters and sometimes meet if she can be found around Santiago. When she explained to her psychoanalyst that she’d like to be a pilgrim with a donkey (which idea she’s temporarily dropped), he immediately came with the interpretation: “how cathartic the thought could be to share the too big burden with someone by transferring it to him.” Hmm, yeah, who’s got too much..

2 After this case I slept there several times and it turned out that my fear was causeless: the horse owner is a señora and instead of sending me to hell she rather gave me food when she detected my presence, at the best time then. That was just... a real pilgrim experience.

Journalists like me, policemen don't

ENG:

This letter (or rather “retrospective diary”) was written in March 2014 in 20 pages, which was then sent to 20 of my friends. The unsophisticated style occurring sometimes is due to the primary audience of friends. On those reading through themselves, it usually had a nice impact: many of them reported meditative experience pulling out of everyday greyness, that’s why I make the whole of it available here, in 12 parts...  /CLICK HERE for the former parts/

/…/ The bum characteristics in Santiago are often mixed up with pilgrim characteristics. This Italian guy pilgrimages as a way of living, has several meters long credential (stamp collecting pilgrim certificate) starting from Germany, besides he speaks many languages. So far I knew the cannibal English and here I’ve met a lot of people speaking the bum English which is fluent but also operates with few words, excluding almost any grammar or conjunctives. He never mentioned his name, neither asked for mine, just referred to me as “El Hungaro”…

There was another lad who was able to bother almost every tourist in their own language until they gave him cigarette and money to bugger off. But most of them are wandering hobos who run down the big cities of Europe, meanwhile learning bum German, bum French etc. Of course, there are the simply slid down bums and very run-down junkies who don’t even speak Spanish any longer, are just mumbling, crawling and vegetating. Further difference is that they are not only permanently drunk, but smoke herbs all day, as well. Many of them even sell it (e.g. the glass eyed one). Not even discreetly at all, so the police knows about it and doesn’t bother them. There are big differences compared to the situation at home. Bums are organic parts of the ecosystem.

For me, in the other hand, I had to keep avoiding the police ’cause day by day one or two of them warned me that I must leave the historical town with the donkey; a special permit is required to enter it with big animal. Because big animal makes big crap. However, miraculously Rocinante never shits in the city. In front of the Cocina, always a police car was waiting until lunch time – probably there used to be troubles where the good company gets together. At this time it was up to my special talents to dodge out of the way of the police so that I could also eat and at the same time take care of the packed donkey not to be robbed meanwhile. But, for example, they never, not even once asked me to show an identity card. At home every one of them starts with this even if you haven’t done anything; your only sin is that you are at the same place. Obviously this is (there use to be articles about it) because there’s an order regarding all the shifts to paper a certain number of measures so it appears in the administration that they were doing something. This was the case even long before Pintér (actual Hungarian interior minister).

„El Italiano” showed me where he regularly sleeps: a covered part of a university building where he invited me too. It would have been OK, but I didn’t feel the place ‘cause meanwhile I started to feel he wants to push me into the bum mafia, or at least I’m getting into some jail hierarchy where he supplies me with everything and I, in turn, would have to be his bitch. “I make food, you make joint”, and I go for water (leaving there all my stuffs with the donkey) and a lot of little things that together are ill-omened. It was becoming ever more obvious that he wants me to give him Roci for the Northern Camino on which he’d like to march backwards in autumn. Meanwhile, of course, people were making photos of the donkey and he was the cool guy with that. I finally backed out urgently when one of the students asked who the donkey belongs to and his bum Spanish sentence contained the pronoun “nosotros”, which – according to my modest Spanish literacy – doesn’t mean that “it’s this Hungarian pilgrim’s, over here.

The building was obviously outside the city, but a policeman came to tell me not to graze this animal in teaching time there. After 7pm I can come back if I still think so. But I didn’t think so, but walked back to Monte do Gozo to camp where I immediately lost my way in the dark (I told you, backwards it’s difficult to find the way), then I got extremely wet in the storm, whatever... By the way, this policeman was also very nice, he told me not to hurry and it’s not a problem, but well, please –anyway, Rocinante has already devoured half of the bushes.

Next day, on the way from Monte de Gozo to Santiago, in the suburbs a Brazilian journalist joined me who was wandering. I told her I might sell the donkey. Meanwhile the photographer of El Correo Gallego newspaper appeared, shot a series of Roci, then left. According to the professional intuition of the woman, my story is a big hit and I should go and find this paparazzi journalist to be interviewed, this is a good promotion for the donkey sale. She invited me for coffee and there we bumped into a dear friend, Mayka. The right time, the right place (synchronicity again!), so the Brazilian could translate between us. She ensured me personally so that he takes care of Roci for some time, ‘cause he’s a cool donkey. (Of course, as it’s already clear from the story, actually he’s a real ass, but anyway, he’s my dude.)

The three of us started a brainstorming, we even called Alba at her workplace to help me to keep in touch with the journal in Spanish etc. (Mayka’s daughter Alba is a graduate medical student and works at the luggage service next to the pilgrim office.1) Following the Internet-surfing and contact searching I started to her, but instead I thought I check this oficina de los peregrinos before to ask for a compostela (certificate of the completed pilgrimage) for the donkey, just for fun. They didn’t give him, but this time I met there the journalist of El Correo (what a coincidence again!), and it turned out she’d already seen the pictures sent by his colleague to the editorial office, and she wants an interview with me – which we immediately did on the spot. Cool, you don’t have to search for them, they find you, anyway. The article came out the next day, almost a full page with a huge picture, on which I seem totally homeless, but that time it reflected the reality. I got a copy just because I fetched it at the office. The article is also can be found on the Internet. There’s some misunderstandings due to the fact that the woman didn’t have much better English skills than my Spanish. However, I actually received 3 emails of interest. One from the local radio to invite me to a show, besides they help to find a place for Roci. I answered in English it’s OK but I don’t speak their language. They didn’t answer to this, never mind…

14102279_10154556781344189_8727080885403465860_n.jpg

Hooey, how ugly I looked in the newspaper... Whatever, the donkey is handsome.

After the pilgrim office I was talking to Alba at the luggage service until a policeman came for me to bring the donkey away. Funny situation: outside some pilgrims were surrounding him, feeding and petting him (one of them also supplied me with a lot of canned fish and instant soup, yeah), and when I lead Roci away, the policemen marched in front of me, showing the direction for leaving the old town. People didn’t see that the two policemen went before me ‘cause of the donkey, so they kept stopping me to take photo, gave him apples, and the policemen almost felt shame as obviously they were the bad guys in this situation and everyone loves the donkey.

Okay, here’s another policeman-story (now it was really a lot): I went to dinner to the Cocina and a Jamaican-style father joined me to make his 2-year-old son Yago, ride the donkey. The father was called Santi (=Santillana); Santi and Yago – pretty witty. The police car that is normally parking in front of the Cocina came behind us and wanted to send us away as usual. Santi explained to them that I just want to eat and then go back to Monte do Gozo. They accepted it easily and cool, indeed, while I was inside, they also dealt with the donkey. At least they took care of the packs while I ate inside, perfect.

During my 3 and a half days staying here, it was not only Mayka I met by chance, but everyone I got to know in autumn, even those who were staying at Camilla’s when I was first there. One of them, a crazy Holland wanderer-greenpeace activist was for example hanging out with the glass eyed back then when I got into them. Little town where the wind blows the rubbish together. Returning to my camping place, I was hanging out a little bit with a German hippie family running along the caravan. One of their (four or five) daughters goes to school here; true wanderers, good for them.

Was raining like hell. I leaked so much and became so ragged that I rather went to the municipal albergue in Monte do Gozo to recreate a bit, immediately when it opened. And I paid. Also for a washing machine, the first time ever! The previous day I tried to get into the Franciscans homeless shelter in Santiago (which the bum lads didn’t talk very pretty of, ‘cause there are too many people in one room, including some with heroine- and crack heads), but they sent me with the explanation that I’m actually a pilgrim and pilgrims are not able to come here. I’m sure with some Spanish knowledge I could get admission into this place, whatever…

I left the donkey in the albergue, I went for a walk in Santiago alone in the afternoon and now could do the Cathedral. Philosophizing, statue-hugging, sightseeing, fetching my paper, making friends with another hobo, checking the university and the bar belonging to it, Cocina feast for half Euro, then returning to the albergue and being happy for the clean, drying clothes – man can value the little pleasures sometimes. /…/

1 This luggage service has since been liquidated.

2 Santi is a great friend of mine ever since, already father of two kids.  There was a time we met more, but since then the family lives in Ponteverda.

My way of camping, donkey-educating and vagabonding

/…/ Let me introduce my tent: it also has a soul that it has already given up. I found it in August, a day after the last day of the Sziget festival, at the Dutch camping area. Many people used to leave their cheep tents behind, they don’t give a fuck about collecting it. I liked it immediately ‘cause it had kind of graffiti patterns on it. Simply single layered, for two people (or rather 1 person + big bag). According to its label it was 39,90 Euros. Some bums also have already been hunting between the tents, one of them even shared his opinion about my choice: “You want to go to the big world with THAT?” I say “why, with WHAT should I go?” “Well, with something... better.” Whatever, I left with THAT. When I looked into the tent, I found all in all a leaf of contraceptive with two pills left in it, three used bags of condom and also some tampons. So I knew immediately that the owner was a very good girl, since she double-protected herself: she uses pills and condon even when having her period. I built up and down this tent during my way approx. 50 times. Many times in the rain, wind, on stony ground etc. Some times it soaked from the rain, got full of ants, once bedbugs bit my leg fully swollen, and once it stank from dog shit for weeks because I accidentally built it up on a dog toilet in the dark.

Following O’Cebreiro, where the province of Galicia begins, at my most frightening horror night of my pilgrimage the storm of the century arrived out of nothing, and not only manhandled and took it with me, but the donkey as well. Galicia greeted me this way. She put me to the roof many times before inviting me to live inside her body... Now the tent was almost fully destroyed, but I finished my pilgrimage with it; I didn’t really have other option.

After Santiago I met a couple doing their pilgrimage without words. They really didn’t speak a word with each other until Santiago. However, they had tent-firstaid stuffs and helped me repair my tent around the end of the way - with not as much success. The point is that by this moment the tent neither had a part that would be complete, nor a function that would work normally.

Nonetheless, I built up this poor cripple structure in idyllic camping mood in the windless orange sunset, which I considered as a reward received for my previous trials. I leaned against the pilgrim statue, tied Roci to its stick, and I started my dinner with the rest of bacon brought from home, staring at the town. Absolute ecstasy. Until the donkey stepped in front of me, with his face gazing at me, asking “maaan, let me go, there’s not much grass here”. I answered: “well, sorry, you’re fuckin’ gobbling all the time, you were the reason I came here, and until now I was always dealing with only you. But NOW, this is my moment and I want to have a romantic dinner, and my cutey-sweety donkey should be beside me to feel like the king of life”. “Really?” – said my cutey-sweety donkey, and with the momentum he turned his ass into my face and crap out under my nose... OK, understood, dear universe and dear Mr.Donkey-with-shit-as-his-communication-channel. I let him go, cleaned the crap, ate, water-piped, meditated and meanwhile the donkey also remained quite close.

Not like the next day in the morning while I packed up. The problem is that in this area you find either trees which you can tie him to, or grass he can gobble. The two of them you never find together. By the time I set off the tent, the animal was grazing already some 100 meters away, so I could go after him. However, when he sees someone coming, the animal instinctively starts to run away from it. He ran down to a way apart from the camino leading to another village. And me after him. But without packs, the son of a bitch is extremely fast. At the same time he runs funnily but right now I was not in the mood to laugh. Fortunately he turned into a dead end (heh, the looser) where I could grab him.

I decided not to go back on foot so far, but instead, this motherfucker will give me a ride. I broke a nice little wand and got on him. But he was so angry and started to do rodeo, of course shaking me down at least three times. When you happen not to sit on him, this kicking-bouncing can also be pretty funny, but if you sit on him, it’s not as much funny. I already got used to the fact that donkey is a stubborn animal, and the only working method against him if I prove that he cannot be more stubborn than me. So following a few fallings and donkey steps on me, I succeeded to break and ignite this creature – I rode with pride back to the place of the tent. This little intermezzo even came with handy, because whenever I set on him before, he never moved, no matter if I hit his ass. The wand, in turn, is an effective ignition key, besides, Rocinante is a quick learner, so next time he just needed a subtle caress to start… Finally a vehicle to ride!

This photo was made from donkey back near Muxia :)

The council of Santiago maintains a canteen called Cocina Economica for local bums where they get cool food thrice a day, but otherwise anyone can go in and eat lunch for 80 Cents, three-course dinner for 50 Cents and breakfast for 20 Cents. Of course, not so many people have the desire to share meal with suspicious junkies, but I used to. I was already late from the mess, but just caught the end of lunch time.

13838432_10154452834954189_986451139_o.jpgAt the Cervantes square near to the Cocina I met an Italian bum who I knew since autumn. Back then, he just left the pizzeria of his friend and got me pizza and beer to care with the donkey while I eat and drink. And now he saw that people are taking photos of the donkey and he was wondering about how he could use this animal to benefit from it. So I left the burro with him while I was eating to let him collect a little money. For three and a half days, during my staying in Santiago I ate here and hanged out with this lad. A run-down figure in his fifties, one of his eyes is from glass through which I got a glimpse into the local bum culture. Participative anthropological observation, but it’s not so hard to stick in it, especially here, where they fully thrive. /…/

Here's a quite new photo of El Italiano, he spends some months in Santiago again
